A Great Time-Saver!
Hanger Blanks have lag bolt threads on one end only, and the balance is ready to be forged, bent, and otherwise decorated according to the needs, wants and whims of the blacksmith, and their customers.
How many times have you gone to the hardware store, come back with zinc-plated screw hooks or screw eyes, proceeded to burn the zinc off, straightened out the ends, and then welded extensions onto the pieces, before even beginning to make the necessary hangers for your project? Even when long lag bolts without zinc are to be found, the threads are too long and the shanks are too short.
We have these manufactured to our specifications, based on the input of a large number of blacksmiths and other metalworkers.
We now make these available in 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" diameters, and in three different lengths in the larger diameters. The 3/8" and 1/2" sizes are made from 1018 mild steel, the same material used for Grade 2 bolts, so they will forge and weld easily. These diameters have cut threads on full size shanks; most have a gimlet point. Furnished Plain.
Our newest item is the 1/4" x 8" Hanger Blank. By popular demand. These have rolled threads, so the shank is a bit undersized (0.225") for the thread diameter. Made from 1006 mild steel wire, this size (0.225") is somewhere between a #12 and a #14 screw size. These have a cone or semi-cone point. Furnished Plain.
The short screw eye with curled end is made from a 3/8" x 8" Blank; if a longer shank is needed, order longer blanks. The longer screw hook with leaf end is from a 3/8" x 12" Blank. You can imagine these in the 1/2" diameter as well. No, we don't sell them as finished articles; that's up to you or your blacksmith. Even if you have to add more length for that special project, these will save you time!
Buy a few to experiment with. Make an extra one for each project and keep them for samples to show to your customers. Think of the possibilities. You should keep some on hand; you never know when you might need a few.
Shipping, in larger quantities, of the longest lengths cannot be via Flat Rate Boxes, as they are too long to fit. Shipping costs will reflect this.
